About Us

Since 1987 NSW Police Legacy has looked after the families of deceased Police Officers across NSW. We are a not-for-profit organisation which provides emotional and financial support for the widows, widowers and their dependent children.

We make no discrimination about whether the fallen police officer was serving, former-serving or retired, or about the manner of their death. Our obligation, for the past 25 years, has been to the partners and children they leave behind – our Legatees.

NSW Police Legacy is proud that we are able to deliver a range of relevant services and events to our Legatees. We currently support children as young as 2 years and widows as old as 100.

We recognise the important role the police officers’ family plays in supporting them in their occupation and we seek to maintain the bond that exists amongst all police families that is so often severed when the officer dies. For the widow/widower and their children, we hope to preserve the feeling of belonging and being a special part of the Police Family.

NSW Police Legacy assists our Legatees by offering emotional and financial support, through grief and trauma counselling, financial advice, welfare and educational grants. Perhaps more importantly, we organise social events for our Legatees which provide them with contact to people who have shared similar experiences, as well as giving them the opportunity to stay connected to the wider NSW Police Family.

Our Vision

“That no partner or child of a deceased serving or former NSW police officer will ever feel forgotten or in need”

Our Mission

NSW Police Legacy endeavours to be a model not for profit organisation committed to providing professional and compassionate support to the widows, widowers and dependent children of deceased NSW police officers.
NSW Police Legacy is dedicated to our Legatees and ensures that they remain a part of the wider Police Family.
NSW Police Legacy has a Board of Directors and three staff members.

What We Do

We provide our Legatees with emotional and financial support. Our work includes assisting with grief and trauma counselling, managing children’s trust funds and raising funds to provide a range of educational and social activities for our members. In this way, we enable the partners and children of deceased Police Officers to stay in touch and share their experiences with others who have suffered in similar ways.

How we help:

  •  Fund grief and trauma counselling
  • Provide education grants
  • Award tertiary scholarships
  • Provide financial assistance
  • Offer referrals for professional advice
  • Trust fund management and allocation of monies
  • Organise functions to help family members stay in touch
  • Organise and run camps for young Legatees
  • Provide birthday and Christmas gifts for Legatees
