December 2024
On Sunday 1 September, Allianz Stadium in Moore Park came alive to the sights and sounds of the inaugural Sydney Roosters Emergency Services event. The NSW Police Force demonstrated their skills to a crowd of over 27,000, with demonstrations from the Rescue & Bomb Disposal Unit, Mounted Unit, Traffic and Highway Patrol, Public Order & Riot Squad, Dog Unit, and Marine Area Command.
Undoubtedly the highlight, however, was the arrival of PolAir 3, carrying both Inspector Amy Scott (rightly lauded for her bravery in the Westfield Bondi Junction attack), and NSW Police Legatee Jack Lucas, representing a different kind of bravery altogether.
Outside the stadium, Chair Det Supt Donna McCarthy, COO Sharyn Frawley, and Treasurer Mick Aalders were all on hand to help out on the NSWPL stall (selling NSW Police Wives & Friends Support Group Bears to the adoring crowd), but perhaps the highlight for us was the special initiative Jack's mum displayed in arranging for her son to meet the players after the game. A truly wonderful day.
