September 2022
On a gloriously sunny day in May, we celebrated Family Day for the first time since 2019. Not wanting to monkey around on such a momentous occasion, the day was held at Taronga Zoo, with a spectacular view of the Harbour, entertainment from the ever-tuneful Police Band, and freedom to wander the grounds for as many animal encounters as our Legatees were up for!
It was our Chair Det Supt Donna McCarthy’s first official function with us, and she was introduced to the Police Legacy Family by our departing Chair Det Supt Gary Merryweather, who took the opportunity of his final official function to hand over the baton, and the mic. We were also honoured with the presence of our Patron, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, Governor of New South Wales.
The day was all about family, and we’ll give the last word to Leisa Doherty, Community Support Manager, who summed it up for all of us. “Family Day 2022 did not disappoint. We loved seeing everyone who attended and missed the ones that couldn’t come. It was a day of connection, hope and love.”
