As we move towards the end of the year for 2019, I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their support throughout the year. I was very honoured to take on the role of Chief Operating Officer in February. It is an exciting period in the history of NSW Police Legacy. The organisation has grown significantly over the past few years and now offers more benefits, support services, and programs than ever before to legatees, and to former and transitioning police and their families.
We are very fortunate to be able share so much of what we do on this website and through our social media platforms. The photos and articles presented give you a glimpse into the impact that NSW Police Legacy has in the lives of the individuals and families that we support. I have been privileged this year to gain a deeper understanding of the remarkable social impact that we have on the individuals and families who we support. I am grateful to those that have so willingly shared their stories with me. They have all spoken about the positive contribution that NSW Police Legacy has had in enhancing their lives through our Community Support and BACKUP for Life services.
Reflecting back on the year there have been many meaningful moments. Watching on as our youngest legatees laid wreaths at the Wall of Remembrance at the Remembrance Day Ceremony was just one of the many occasions that reminded me of the importance of our work. Whilst I was filled with an overwhelming sense of sadness, I was also able to think about how NSW Police Legacy has and will continue to enhance the lives of those children. The education grants, children’s camps, Christmas event and gifts, scholarships, birthday gift cards, and many other support services positively influence the health and wellbeing of our younger legatees.
Providing such an extensive suite of programs and services to many individuals and families is challenging within our limited financial and human resources. I will move forward into 2020 with a continued focus on cost effective and contemporary services and support within best practice governance.
The team at NSW Police Legacy are dedicated to providing professional and compassionate support. They are a talented group of people who are passionate about the work they do. I thank them for always doing their best, and for always doing what is asked of them with a smile.
The work that NSW Police Legacy does, and the people that we support, inspire me daily. On behalf of the team I wish all of you a Merry Christmas. I hope that 2020 is full of good health and much happiness.
