July 2024
The July Adventure camp lived up to its name, with 45 young Police Legatees from NSWPL and AFP Legacy flying up to the Northern Territory for the trip of a lifetime!
The whirlwind itinerary included Darwin, Adelaide River, Litchfield National Park, Wangi Falls, Florence Falls, Edith Falls, Katherine, and the Katherine Gorge, and our kids were never in danger of getting bored.
Some of the highlights included the croc cruise on the Adelaide River, where the rangers were on first-name terms with the fearsome beasts in evidence; an Aboriginal Cultural Workshop which included workshops on didgeridoo playing, spear throwing, and basket weaving; relaxing and swimming beneath truly awe-inspiring waterfalls; the Outback Spectacular show, which included many working farm animals, and highlighted the farm owner playing guitar while standing on the back of his horse; and kayaking down the natural splendour of the Katherine Gorge.
Sadly, the trip was the last time eight of our Legatees will be with us, as they turn 18 and “graduate” to the 18–25-year-old camp, but they were very warmly farewelled. On the other end of the spectrum, the trip was the first for our new Community Support Manager Tegan Kanard, and she crowned this achievement by writing and performing a poem around the campfire on the last night which included every single Legatee by name. Congratulations Tegan, and thank to everybody for making this one truly memorable!
